Are You Making the Most of Your Medical Aid's Dietitian Benefits?

Did you know that your medical aid may cover dietitian consultations over and above your usual day-to-day benefits?

We have only 3 months left of this year so its the perfect time to make use of your 2026 dietitian benefits! The thing about these benefits is that most people are not even aware that they have them. A benefit means that you do not pay out of pocket or even out of your savings and that you are entitled to essentially free sessions with a registered dietitian- like me :)

Several South African medical schemes offer additional nutritional support through preventative healthcare, wellness, diabetes management, mental health and weight management programmes.

Many members are unaware of these benefits and may be missing out on consultations they are entitled to.

How to Access Your Benefits

Before booking your dietitian appointment, contact your medical aid and ask whether you qualify for any additional preventative, wellness or disease-management benefits.

Some programmes require a health screening, GP referral or prior enrolment, while others require you to consult a dietitian within a specific provider network.

Remember: Your dietitian consultations may not necessarily need to come out of your medical savings. It's worth checking what additional benefits are available to you.

Important: Information is based on available 2026 medical scheme guidance. Benefits vary according to medical aid option, eligibility, network requirements and scheme rules. Reported benefits marked as requiring confirmation should not be regarded as guaranteed cover. Always confirm your individual benefits directly with your medical aid before booking.
